Every organization functions. The question is whether it functions as defined or relies, every day, on people’s efforts to try to make things happen. In Como o Trabalho Acontece, Marcelo Senna Pinheiro presents the Discipline of Functioning as a proposed field of study in development, dedicated to observing the different layers involved in how work happens in organizations. Drawing on more than twenty years of practical observation, the author develops a reading of what exists between a decision and its execution. Relationships, positions, criteria, mediations, structures and forms of sustainment help explain why an organization can continue functioning yet produce something different from what it had defined.
The book presents concepts such as Standard Functioning and Execution Governance without taking the form of a manual. Its aim is to teach readers to see functioning before attempting to intervene in it. Through stories, structural rereadings and real organizational situations, the text speaks primarily to directors, managers, business owners, consultants and professionals responsible for ensuring that decisions move through the organization and reach execution.
The foreword will be written by Manuel Tessi, an author published by Granica and a leading Latin American voice in internal communication. Marcelo represents his methodology in Brazil.
